Brattleboro 10U All-Stars Play for State Championship

The Brattleboro 10U All-Stars played for the 2024 Vermont State Championship, hosting the championship game following a pair of wins in the state tournament.

After triumphing over Bennington and Rutland in district play, the Brattleboro 10U All-Stars got off to a great start in the opening round of the state tournament with an 18-2 win over Connecticut Valley in four innings. They then defeated Colchester 2-0 to advance to the state championship game behind a dominant performance on the mound by Simon Potter who recorded 15 strikeouts in five and one third innings of work. Mason Rea came on in relief with one out in the top of the sixth inning and got a huge strikeout to end the game.

Alas, the team’s championship bid came up one out short the following weekend, as Colchester came back to win a a tight, back and forth state championship game 5-4 in extra innings. As the Brattleboro Reformer reported, “the game was everything a state championship should be. There was suspense, drama, great pitching and a late comeback to force extra innings.”

After the game Brattleboro coach Rob Rea said he talked to the team about the season they had.

“This was a magical season that they came together as a team, forgot the individuals and played together and everybody is proud of them. It was a hard-fought game,” said Rea. “No kid held back. They gave it their all. I can’t ask for any more than that.”

Congratulations to the players and coaches on a great season!
